Powell Street Japanese Festival

Hello everyone! Clement from Westcoast here to talk about one of our biggest community events in Vancouver!
Vancouver, as one of the most multicultural cities in Canada, is home to many cultures. One of the cultural communities that has been here the longest is the Japanese-Canadian community, dating all the way back to 1877! The Powell Street festival is held in the Powell Street area of Vancouver formerly known as Japantown. It is the longest running cultural festival in Vancouver. For 40 years, the Powell Street Festival has been held over a period of two days during the summer to celebrate art, community and heritage of Japanese-Canadians living not only in Vancouver, but all across Canada. This year, the festival will be held on July 30th and 31st. Each year, this festival attracts over 15000 people from all over to share in the celebration of culture boh traditional and modern. Each year, the festival hosts performances of all kinds including music, dance, theatre, martial arts, and various traditional ceremonies such as Aikibana, omikoshi and tea ceromonies. Participants will also be able to enjoy traditional Japanese foods. Please join the celebrations during the beautiful summer weather and get a glimpse of the beautiful and culturally diverse city that Vancouver is!
